In 1964, a 26 year old racer named Richard Petty got behind the wheel of a Plymouth race car equipped with a motor that would soon make Daytona 500 history. The 426 ‘Elephant’ HEMI!! Richard won the iconic race by more than a lap over the second place contender. To put some Mopar icing on the cake…The top three finishers were all driving 426 Hemi cars! These beastly motors helped pave the way for a new brand of power that we have all grown to love.
