Happy Thanksgiving folks! Here is a little old school Mopar drag racing to enjoy with the family. That little 340 Duster was pretty spicy, did it have enough to take out the 440 Road Runner?
“1969 Plymouth Road Runner A12 vs 1971 Plymouth Duster 340. Factory Stock Drag Race. Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race. First car is a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. The other is a 1971 Plymouth Duster. The Road Runner is an A12, and therefore has a 440 6-bbl V8, while the Duster has a 340 V8. The 440-6 engine was rated 390 horsepower and the Duster 340 was rated 275 horsepower. Backing the Road Runner A12 is a 4-speed manual transmission, but the ’71 Duster has a TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission. Rear gearing in the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner A12 is 4.10. The Duster has a more aggressive set of 4.30 rear gears. Weight is a strength for the Duster as it only weighs 3230 pounds, including the driver. On the other hand, the Road Runner (with driver) is 3784 pounds. Speed and Super Car Magazine tested a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner A12, and with Ronnie Sox at the wheel it ran 12.91 seconds @ 111 mph. Super Street Cars magazine tested a 1971 Duster 340 with 3.91 rear gears and an automatic transmission and it ran 14.26 seconds @ 98.3 mph.”
